Christmas Spotlight: Aven Ellis

The Holiday Season  and the Starbucks Red Cups

So many things signal the return of the holiday season-Christmas music is suddenly piped into stores. Aisles are filled with things like gingerbread cookies, fruit cakes, and marzipan. Greenery is wrapped around light posts and lights are strung on houses.

However, for the coffee lover, nothing signals the return of the holiday season like a Starbucks Red Cup.

Yes, I’m a coffee addict. Three cups a day for sure. Normally I drink it with a splash of cream. On weekends I love cappuccino with a touch of maple syrup. But the Red Cups not only signal the start of the season leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it signals something more-the return of holiday flavors.

Only a Starbucks addict can understand this. I live for the gingerbread latte, only available at this time of year. I can’t WAIT for that first Red Cup to be seen, meaning I can finally have my beloved gingerbread latte. I love them so much-so does one of my beta readers, Jo-that I introduced a character who loved those gingerbread lattes and Red Cups as much as we do. In Breakout, Lexi Stewart is obsessed with gingerbread lattes.  So much so that her love interest, Niko, wonders what Lexi will do when Red Cup season ends. Now that I won’t tell you, because you can find that out in the book, but I can tell you I’m always sad to see the Red Cups disappear at the end of the holiday.

Of course, the coffee lover in me is always curious to see what the next featured latte will be in the New Year.  But nothing beats the anticipation of the holiday season and that first sip of a gingerbread latte in a Red Cup.

While Texas is known for loving football, Lexi Stewart has always been drawn to the ice. Hockey is her passion, and she wants nothing more than to pursue a career in video editing for the home network of the Dallas Demons hockey team.
Lexi has an editing job for a corporate account, but it’s not fulfilling. Nor is her dating life, despite having the so-called help of The One Online Dating Service. Lexi knows there has to be more for her—on both fronts. She’s ready to take the next step, but it doesn't seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon.
Until a flying puck changes everything.
Niko Xenakis is the new Dallas Demons TV producer, and he’s looking to make his mark in his new role and hopefully work his way back to his hometown of Baltimore. But once he meets Lexi, he might just change his mind on what he wants for his future . . .
But the road to love is never easy, complicated by the fact that they both carry emotional baggage from the past in their hearts. Can these two “breakout”of the past to find love in the present?

About Aven Ellis

I live in the Dallas area with my family. I enjoy clipping out recipes I will never get around to trying, working out, and chatting with friends on social media. I’m a hockey nut (Go Stars!) and watch as much as humanly possible. I also love shopping and fashion and admit to being obsessed with whatever the Duchess of Cambridge is wearing. In addition to be obsessed with the Duchess, I’m equally obsessed with any show or cookbook featuring Gordon Ramsay.
