As the weekend nears Rebecca is here to help us get through this last weekday.
Rebecca, can you tell us a little about you?
Thanks for inviting me here! I’m a romance writer from Perth, Australia and I can usually be found with a glass of wine in hand as I wrangle my twin boys, and fall in love with fictional characters.
Can you tell us about your new book?
It’s a little different from the other books, as it’s more plot driven. There’s a jewel thief on the loose and our main character Anouk is out to catch him because antiques are precious to her and she’s had a brush with a love rat who has crushed her confidence, so she’s of the opinion that no man shall make a fool of her anymore! It’s part romance, part mystery, part comedy…well I hope it reads that way!
What is your favourite place to write?
At my dining room table, even though I have a lovely office set up! I don’t get the sunlight during the day in the office so I usually sit at the dining room table and soak up the light! It’s a shame its closer to the kitchen for all those snack stops…
Where do you get your character inspiration from?
Oh everywhere! I have so many ideas floating through my head that I’ve taken to printing one page of notes about book ideas and pinning them to a board so I don’t forget. I try to make each character the polar opposite of the ones before, and it’s a lot of fun getting to know them.
What are your 3 desert island books?
Good one! I’d take The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway because I love him and there might be some useful tips if I was marooned.
And I’d take the next Kristina O’Grady book because I have a bit of catching up to do with her Copeland Ranch trilogy! And another JoJo Moyes book as I think I’ve recovered enough now to read her again.
What is your favourite place to read?
In bed! It’s winter here at the moment so I usually par boil myself in the bath and then jump into bed with my book and that’s my night sorted. Eight pm isn’t too early for bed is it?
What is your favourite book and why?
That is so tough! I have SO many faves, but Cloud Street by Tim Winton has stayed with me for such a long time. And it’s set in Perth. Although Me Before You by JoJo Moyes will forever plague me. I couldn’t talk without blubbering for days after! Really loved it so much!
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
At the moment I’m trying to get my fitness back up to par. With all the deadlines that all went out the window, so I am trying to slowly ease my way back into it. We have all started Karate again, and I am really enjoying doing something that intimidates me because I feel so self-conscious! Once I get past that little voice in my head I really enjoy the classes, and it’s something we all do as a family, although on different days.

Dark chocolate!
Is there a book you wished you wrote?
Me Before You! I adored it, and I thought to myself, can I even write? I loved the characters so much that they felt like friends.
You have a free flight and accommodation to anywhere in the world where would you go?
Paris! I wish I could spend a year there hunting out hidden gems, and ambling along the boulevards getting lost on purpose.
What is your favourite season?
Autumn. In Australia a typical autumn day is around 22-25 C which is just right. I also like the beauty of the leaves changing colour and falling away.
