Book News: Guest Post with Angela Campbell

Hello and welcome to my second guest post for Harper Impulse Fortnight. Today I am joined by Angela Campbell who is talking about her latest book.

First of all, I want to say thank you to Emma for hosting me today during Harper Impulse Fortnight. Charlie would give her a big, slobbery lick across the cheek, Abbott would definitely give her a head bump, and Costello would definitely, er, hump her leg for her kindness.

Who are Charlie, Abbott and Costello? Charlie, Abbott and Costello are the mischievous critters that tie each of my Harper Impulse books together. These delightful furballs help unite the heroes and heroines in my series — some more than others. I know what you might be thinking. Oh, no, not more pets as plot devices in a romance novel!

I can’t speak for any other authors who’ve realized how full of awesome pets in romances can be, but I wrote a cat and dog in the first book of my series, “On the Scent,” because I saw a headline one day that read “Italian Cat Inherits £10m From Owner.” My zany little mind took that plot point and ran with it, imagining a beautiful nurse being targeted after taking in some furry millionaires and needing a strong, sexy protector to keep them all safe. Charlie gets added to the trio of pets at the end of book one, and when it came to writing the second and third books, their characters pushed and wiggled their way into each story. I have a confession. I stupidly tried to keep them out of the second book. “Something Wicked” — it’s set in a different city, after all — but they weren’t having it. Nope. They found a creative way to be a part of that story, too, in the end, so I didn’t even try to keep them from pushing to the forefront of book three’s story. Maybe that’s why “Spirited Away” seems to be everyone’s favorite book in the series so far. Hmm. Epiphany! Go figure.

For those of you who don’t know, I call my series with Harper Impulse the psychic detectives series, because it features a team of sexy private investigators — some of whom happen to be psychic — solving unique and unusual mysteries even as they fall in love. Each book features a different hero and heroine and can be read as a standalone, or so I’m told, but I personally think you’ll want to read each one just to enjoy the antics of Charlie, Abbott, and Costello. Just sayin’. Need more enticement? Why don’t I tell you more about “Spirited Away.”

“Spirited Away” also features my favorite heroine to write so far. She’s not psychic, but she’s still 100 percent awesome sauce. I know, because she’s a lot like me. Like Emma “Spider” Fisher, I’m a total geek girl who loves technology, watches far too much sci-fi and fantasy television, plays video games, and collects action figures of superheroes. Team her up with the mischievous Charlie, Abbott and Costello, and hilarity ensues. Especially when the hot guy next door keeps getting involved and recruits her to help him solve the mystery of his possibly haunted house.

So “Spirited Away” has it all. The funnies. Mystery. Danger. Romance. A quirky, lovable heroine. A sexy, mysterious hero. And pets! What more could you ask for?

Who knew pet-sitting could be so dangerous…or so sexy?!

Socially awkward Emma “Spider” Fisher prefers her laptop to people, so she’s more than happy to oblige her boss when he asks her to pet- and housesit while he honeymoons in London.

But it doesn’t take long for accident-prone Spider to lose a dog, get locked out of the house, and set off the house alarm!

Thankfully, her hot new neighbor is more than happy to come to her rescue. But Noah West is a mystery to Spider—and one she intends to solve.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Angela for taking the time to write this post for me.
