Harper Christmas Q&A With Nikki Moore

Hello, Today I am joined by Nikki Moore. I have a big apology to make to Nikki as somehow this did not get posted on Friday like I had planned. However  I don’t want you all to miss out on this wonderfully christmassy interview…

Tell me a little bit about you

I was born in Brighton but have been a Dorset girl since I was about two years old and can’t imagine ever leaving (I love the fact I have both award-winning beaches and beautiful forests practically on my doorstep). I’ve got a day job in Employee Relations, two lively kids and a lovely boyfriend to keep me busy alongside the writing.

I’m a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association, and graduated through their wonderful New Writers’ Scheme. Published mainly by HarperImpulse, I’m the author of the #LoveLondon series, some of which have been in the Top 100 short story charts on Kobo and the Top 20 in the Amazon UK bestsellers Holiday chart.

I was a finalist in a few writing competitions between 2010 – 2012, my debut novel Crazy, Undercover, Lovewas shortlisted for the RNA Joan Hessayon Award 2015 and Valentine’s on Primrose Hill (#LoveLondon novella 3) was nominated for Best Short Romance in the Love Stories Awards 2015. So all in all it’s been a very exciting year.

I’m a strong supporter of aspiring authors and love to chat about writing, reading, movies and life in general.

What do you love about Christmas?

I love getting the opportunity to spend quality time with my family, boyfriend and friends over the Christmas period. I also adore all the lights and decorations, how excited my kids get, and having an excuse to sit around and stuff my face full of roast dinners / chocolate while watching Bond movies. I also enjoy not having to get up for work the next day when I’ve had one too many glasses of wine / Baileys / Bucks Fizz / whatever is available 🙂

What do you hate about Christmas?

The winter weather! Brrrr! I get cold easily (my core temperature seems to sit around -1C) and I absolutely hate the bitter wind in December that cuts right through you, and having to scrape ice off the car in the mornings. I spend November, December and January shivering and wishing for the sun.

What is your favourite Christmas movie?

I have a few Christmas favourites; namely Love Actually, Home Alone and Elf.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey is really catchy. On a more traditional note, I’ve always had a soft spot for Silent Night.

What was your best Christmas?

All my Christmases have been lovely for one reason or another. It’s difficult to pick a particular one. Sorry if that’s a bit of a cop out!

What was your best Christmas present?

I can still remember the thrill of my parents buying me first bike, when I was about four or five years old. It was pink with white handle bars and those ribbons that came out of the end of the handles. I loved it. I spent a lot of time riding around the neighbourhood on it, accompanied by my friends on their new bikes.

What was your worst Christmas present?

I’m not sure, I can’t remember ever getting a truly horrific present, although I’m pretty sure my ex got me something to do with housework / an appliance one year! 🙁

Describe your ideal Christmas

I would actually really love to go away somewhere hot one Christmas. I know it probably wouldn’t feel the same if I wasn’t at home with my family in the cold, but I think it would be really good fun to take the kids abroad one year. In the UK, my ideal Christmas would be having at least 2 – 3 weeks off so I could see ALL of my friends and family, eating, drinking, playing games, watching movies, a few beach walks and relaxing. I’m starting to look forward to Christmas now! 🙂

What do you want for Christmas this year?

Something it’s almost impossible to give me – more time! I would love it if someone could give me a few more hours in every day so I could write more. Failing that, I’d love a new laptop, or even better a Mac, to do my writing and promo on. If there are any sponsors out there who fancy sending one my way… Christmas miracles do happen, right? ?
