Blog Tour: Married at First Swipe

Good Morning world! Today is a very exciting day I am interviewing Claire Frost! Now some of you may know Claire as the Assistant Editor at Fabulous magazine or you may know her as the writer of Living my Best Li(f)e or if you are really clued up you will know her as both! As part of the tour for Claire’s second book, Married at First Swipe, I interviewed Claire. Also, look out for my review coming later today.

Can you tell us a little about you?

Hi Emma, and thanks for inviting me over to your blog! I write romcoms that are all about relationships and friendships – as well as about the difference between our lives online and IRL. My debut novel, Living My Best Life, came out in 2019, and my second, Married At First Swipe, has just been published!

Can you summarise your new book?

Married At First Swipe is about Hannah, who is always looking for her next adventure but also wants to find someone she can settle down with, and her best friend Jess, who is married to her childhood sweetheart and they live with their lovely seven-year-old twins in a nice semi-detached house in a Manchester suburb. But when Jess reveals her dating business is on the verge of going under, Hannah comes up with a daring plan to generate much-needed publicity: she will let Jess set her up on the ultimate blind date – which will take place at the altar. What could possibly go wrong?!

Can you tell us about the characters in this book?

I loved writing this book because Hannah and Jess are very different characters, yet they are best friends. Hannah is adventurous and bold and up for a laugh; while Jess loves things to be ‘just so’, she likes to plan, and needs to feel like she’s succeeding at everything. I’ve known my best friend since we were five years old, and although we live at other ends of the country and our day-to-day lives are quite different, we love the same things and totally ‘get’ each other on every level, so I was able to use our friendship as inspo for Jess and Hannah’s relationship.

Who is your favourite character?

Argh, don’t make me choose! Hannah is such a fun person that I’m always instantly drawn to her, but I totally understand Jess and her need for order (there may be a bit of me in her character!).

What was the hardest part of writing this book?

I think every part of writing a book is hard! That’s not to say that I don’t love what I do, because I really do, but sometimes I find myself staring at a blank page and wishing the words would magically appear on it! But once I’ve procrastinated, got through my self-doubt and made myself another cup of coffee, I’ll read through the last chapter I’ve written and instantly be transported back to my characters’ world, which I love.

Do you have a favourite scene from this book? What is it and why?

I actually love the prologue to Married At First Swipe, as Hannah is standing in the entrance to the wedding venue about to decide whether she’ll walk down the aisle to meet the man she is about to marry for the very first time – my nerves jingle for her every time I read it!

What is your favourite place to write?

Where I am now – which is sitting at my desk, looking out on to my garden while the sun tries to peep out from behind the clouds and the green shoots of spring push themselves up through the soil. Bliss.

What is your favourite place to read?

I have just treated myself to a special reading chair – it’s bright yellow, super comfy and no one but me is allowed to sit on it. It is my happy place.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading – or binge-watching reality TV like Married At First Sight Australia or Love is Blind!

You have a free flight and accommodation to anywhere in the world where would you go?

I cannot wait till we’re allowed to fly off to somewhere amazing again! My favourite ever place I’ve been is Cape Tribulation in Australia, up near the Barrier Reef – the rainforest juts on to a perfect sandy beach and is filled with awe-inspiring creatures such as the southern cassowary. I’m going to spend the rest of my day dreaming of going back there now!

Thank you very much for joining me today Claire! and you can check out details of Married at First Swipe below.

Hannah lives life on the edge. Never one to pass up on a new adventure, she has truly been living her best life. But once the adrenaline wears off, she wishes she had someone to spend the quieter moments with too. Learning that her best friend’s online dating business has taken a hit, she comes up with an idea that just might solve both of their problems...
Jess has been with her husband for twenty years. They have a stable marriage, great kids and run their own businesses. But what looks like a perfect life from the outside has its own problems within, and with her business on the brink Jess can’t help but wonder where the spark has gone in her life, and whether settling down is all it’s cracked up to be.
When Hannah embarks upon her latest scheme: finding a man using Jess’s dating app and meeting him for the first time at the altar, both women start to realise the grass isn't always greener. Can Hannah help her friend save her failing business or will Jess stop her from making what could be the biggest mistake of her life?
In the modern tech-fuelled world of dating, is it possible to find true love?

About Claire Frost

Claire Frost grew up in Manchester, the middle of three sisters. She always wanted to do a job that involved writing, so after studying Classics at Bristol University she started working in magazines. For the last 10 years, she’s been at The Sun on Sunday’s Fabulous magazine, where she is Assistant Editor and also responsible for the title’s book reviews. She can mostly be found at her desk buried under a teetering TBR pile.
