Top 20 of 2020

Well, 2020 was a bit different to how we all thought wasn’t it! I’m determined to end the year on a positive note so in no particular order here’s my top 20 books that I read in 2020.

I have been telling everyone about Has Anyone Seen My Sex Life? I loved it! It was funny and fresh. When I was asked for recommendations during lockdown this was top of my list. It was a perfect pick me up. I also loved the second book in this series Can I Give My Husband Back? I cannot wait for the third book in this series, Did My Love Life Shrink in the Wash? which comes out in January.

I LOVE a retelling and the first book in this series A Curse So Dark and Lonely was in my top books of 2019. I was SO excited to read the sequel A Heart So Fierce and Broken. It was everything I hoped for and more. The third book A Vow So Bold and Deadly is out in January and I CANNOT wait!

Like I said above I love a retelling. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite fairytales so when I saw Hunted on audible I was so excited to read it. Megan made this story her own. I’m also a big fan of one of the narrators Saskia Maarleveld. Her voice is so magical.

This next book is one that I had seen on Instagram A LOT but somehow it had passed me by last year! I didn’t know too much about it but I thought I would look up the audio. It turned out that I was a fan of the two narrators Saskia Maarleveld and Holter Graham. I had listened to both their voices before and I was in love. Soon I became addicted to Serpent & Dove

I am a big big fan of Heidi Swain’s writing style so when I heard about The Secret Seaside Escape I was SO excited. We had a new location, new characters and it was by the sea! Oh, it was perfect! and if you haven’t heard, next Christmas we are returning to Wynmouth in Underneath The Christmas Tree Christmas by the Sea! I’m so excited!

Christmas is my favourite time of the year and this was one of my favourite books of the season! I’ve read a few of Bella’s books before but this is the first Christmas book she has written. I really hope it’s not her last! One Family Christmas gave me all the festive feels. Sadly I didn’t see my family this Christmas but this book helped give me some of what I missed.

Now, where would I be without a bit of Detective Dan. The Stranger’s Wife is the third book in the Detective Dan series. I’m a little bit in love with Dan and this book just helped me to fall a little bit deeper. It’s not your average police procedural with a good dose of psychological thriller too.

This book was one I decided to request on Netgalley because I had heard a bit of a buzz. In Five Years was not at all what I had expected but it was beautiful and heart-breaking all the same! When this book ended I was beyond broken!

Aven Ellis is one of my go-to authors. I am lucky enough to be one of her Beta readers for this book. In Royal Icing we finally get to hear Xanders story! Poppy and Xander are perfect for each other! I can’t wait for more from this series.

Gina Harte is another favourite detective of mine. Their Silent Graves is one of the creepiest books I’ve read this year. Its set near Halloween and includes being buried alive!

Holly Martin is another of my go-to authors. I absolutely loved both the books she released this year but Autumn Skies over Ruby Falls just edged it for me. It was full of hot chocolate and pumpkins. It’s a hug in a book!

I Wish it Could Be Christmas Everyday is the Christmas book you need to read this year. I swear Milly has a crystal ball or something because this story tells us how important it is to appreciate what you have. I think that is a message we all needed this Christmas.

Winter Rising is the second book in the Winter Series. I read both books back to back and while I really enjoyed the first the second was just something else. With the background from Winter Dark the characters just became so alive in the second part. I can’t wait to read the third book!

The Last Charm is one of those books that will play on your mind for a long time. It is as beautiful as it is heartbreaking. I fell in love with these characters. I laughed with them, I got angry with them and I cried with them.

I have been a fan of Melissa’s work for many years now. The Braden’s (at Weston) have a special place in my heart but The Gritty Truth almost killed me! It got me to the core!

The Girls in the Snow had everything! Suspense, mystery and murder. It was one of those edge of your seat books ALL THE WAY THROUGH! I can’t wait to see what Stacy brings next.

The First Time We Met is a love story about timings. Mainly wrong timings. Izzy and Sam are perfect for each other if only they can meet at the right time.

Josie Quinn my kick-ass detective. She has been through hell in the previous 9 books but in Breathe Your Last Lisa damn near killed me!

Helen Phifer is one of those writers that get’s right under your skin. The Killer’s Girl kept me up all night. It was creepy and disturbing.

My final choice for my top books of the year is Watch Her Vanish. This one was disturbing as hell and made me glad I don’t live alone!
